Shweta Dere | Pune

In anticipation of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Pune will adhere to dry days on May 12 and May 13, with liquor sales permitted to resume only after 6 pm on May 13, the day of polling. Phase four of the Lok Sabha elections, including Pune, is scheduled for May 13.

To ensure compliance with the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase has utilized Section 135(C) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, to enforce the liquor ban during polling.

Pune will go dry as per the Model Code of Conduct guidelines for 48 hours before end of polling day
According to MCC guidelines, alcohol sales must cease 48 hours before the end of each polling day. Strict penalties under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949, and relevant provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, await violators, with inspectors held accountable as per Diwase’s directives.

In Maharashtra, Pune will participate in Phase 4 of the Lok Sabha elections on May 13, amid the state's five-phase polling schedule spanning April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, and May 20.

Recognising the significance of polling day, the Maharashtra government has declared a public holiday across all Lok Sabha constituencies, including Maval, Pune, and Shirur, which are set for voting on May 13.

This public holiday also extends to voters who may be away from their constituencies due to work commitments. Additionally, state and central government offices, semi-government establishments, public enterprises, and other institutions will remain closed on polling days.
