17 MPs, 2 Committees Named Sansad Ratna Awardees 2025

By Anshul Trivedi

In a significant moment for Indian parliamentary recognition, the year 2025 will see seventeen Members of Parliament and two parliamentary standing committees being honoured with the Sansad Ratna Awards.

Instituted in 2010 on the suggestion of former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the Sansad Ratna Awards celebrate excellence in parliamentary performance, relying solely on measurable parameters like debates participated in, questions asked, private members’ bills introduced, and attendance in the House.
This time, the recognition has not been limited to individuals alone
The upcoming fifteenth edition of the awards continues this legacy, with a diverse group of MPs from across the political spectrum and different regions of the country being acknowledged for their contributions.

Among those selected for the honour are first-time MP Naresh Mhaske of the Shiv Sena from Thane, actor-turned-politician Ravi Kishan of the Bharatiya Janata Party representing Gorakhpur, Dr. Varsha Gaikwad of the Indian National Congress from Mumbai South Central, and Arvind Sawant of the Shiv Sena (UBT) from Mumbai South. Other notable names include Nishikant Dubey of the BJP from Godda, veteran parliamentarian Bhartruhari Mahtab representing Cuttack, BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra Medha Vishram Kulkarni, and Madan Rathore of the BJP from Rajasthan.

The full list of seventeen MPs being awarded will be officially released in the lead-up to the ceremony.

Recognition has not been limited to individuals alone. This year, two parliamentary standing committees—on Housing and Urban Affairs, and on Railways—will also be felicitated for their exemplary work.

These committees have played crucial roles in legislative scrutiny and have been instrumental in shaping policy through detailed examination of government functioning within their respective domains.

The award ceremony is scheduled to be held in the last week of July in New Delhi and is expected to bring together parliamentarians, civil society representatives, and organisers in a celebration of democratic excellence.

Organised by the Prime Point Foundation along with the eMagazine PreSense and the Sansad Ratna Awards Committee, the awards are decided on the basis of publicly available data, including inputs from PRS Legislative Research and the records maintained by both Houses of Parliament.

At a time when political discourse is often mired in partisanship and disruption, the Sansad Ratna Awards stand as a quiet, steadfast reminder of the value of diligence, consistency, and constructive participation in the functioning of India’s democracy.

By honouring those who uphold these ideals, the awards continue to inspire a higher standard of legislative conduct and public service.
