Maharashtra Launches Drive Against Fake Ration Cards
By A Draft Correspondent
The Maharashtra government has initiated a significant operation to eliminate ineligible ration cards, resulting in the cancellation of over 18 lakh cards across the state. This move is part of a broader effort to ensure that subsidised food grains under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) reach only eligible recipients.
The drive, which commenced on April 1 and is scheduled to continue until May 31, 2025, involves a comprehensive verification process. Ration cardholders are required to submit self-declaration forms along with supporting documents proving income and residence. Failure to comply will result in the ration cards being marked as ineligible and subsequently canceled.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has also intensified its operations against illegal immigrants |
In Mumbai, the Food and Civil Supplies Department has launched a search operation to identify and cancel invalid ration cards. The department has issued an order stating that any ration card found to have been issued to foreign nationals, including Bangladeshi infiltrators, will be canceled .
To enhance transparency and eliminate fraudulent beneficiaries, the government has made e-KYC mandatory for ration cardholders. The deadline for completing the e-KYC process was extended to April 30, 2025. Beneficiaries who fail to complete the e-KYC process within the stipulated time may have their ration cards canceled and benefits terminated.
The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has also intensified its operations against illegal immigrants. The ATS is targeting key operators responsible for settling illegal immigrants into India and assisting them in securing documents through fraudulent means. The ATS has been actively registering cases with the Mumbai Police and ensuring that fraudulent government-issued documents, such as PAN cards, driving licenses, and ration cards obtained through forged paperwork, are canceled.
These measures are part of the state's ongoing efforts to maintain the integrity of its public distribution system and ensure that resources are allocated to genuine beneficiaries.
