Bar Association Stops Work, Launches March To Protest Double Murder Of Advocate Couple

Mumbai's City Civil and Sessions Bar Association passed a resolution on Thursday, 1 February 2024 to abstain from attending court proceedings in response to the brutal murder of an advocate couple at Rahuri, Ahmednagar in Maharashtra.

The deceased advocates, Rajaram Adhav (52) and Manisha Adhav (42), were allegedly killed by five assailants on January 27 after they refused to pay a ransom of Rs 5 lakh to one of their clients.

The Bar Association at the City Civil and Sessions Court expressed its outrage over the incident and decided to suspend its work on 2 February 2024.

Furthermore, the association resolved to organise a protest march at Azad Maidan to demand the enactment of the Advocates Protection Act.

The advocates would march from Azad Maidan to Mantralaya between 10 am and 2:30 pm to voice their protest and seek legal protection for their profession.

Several other district bar associations in Mumbai also joined in condemning the heinous crime.
