By Rachel Thomas
In a formal address during her daily news conference, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated the administration's call for Congress to modernize the United States' immigration system, which she described as "woefully outdated." She emphasized the necessity of updating not only the immigration system but also the temporary visa programs that have remained unchanged for over two decades.

Under the existing regulations, individuals holding certain temporary visas are typically granted a 60-day window to secure new employment, explore alternative visa categories, or make arrangements for their departure from the United States.
Ms. Jean-Pierre pressed upon Congress the urgency of their responsibility to pass legislation that aligns with the requirements of the 21st-century economy. She underlined the importance of adapting immigration laws to the current socio-economic landscape.
Highlighting the administration's commitment to immigration reform, she pointed out that President Joe Biden prioritized this issue from the outset of his presidency. On his first day in office, President Biden introduced comprehensive immigration reform legislation, a move that underscored the gravity of the situation.
Ms. Jean-Pierre stated that the President's immediate focus on immigration reform was motivated by the recognition that the existing system was fundamentally flawed and in need of substantive change.
