Homage Paid To War Heroes On Kargil Vijay Diwas

On 26 July 2023, in commemoration of the 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas, a dignified and solemn wreath-laying ceremony was conducted at the Shaheed Smarak in Colaba, Mumbai.

The ceremony held profound significance as it aimed to pay tribute to the supreme sacrifice made by our martyrs and to honor the victory of the Indian Armed Forces.

Distinguished personnel from the armed forces participated in the ceremony. Lieutenant General HK Kahlon, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding Maharashtra Gujarat & Goa Area, led the wreath-laying, followed by Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, NM, COS Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral AN Pramod, Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra Naval Area, and Air Vice Marshal Rajat Mohan VM, Air Officer Commanding, Headquarters Maritime Air Operations. The presence of other Senior Officers and esteemed veterans from all three services added to the reverence of the occasion.

Kargil Vijay Diwas holds an annual place of importance on the 26th of July, honouring the gallantry and valour displayed during the Kargil War. This historic battle was fought in the challenging and inhospitable terrain of the Kargil-Drass Sector in Ladakh, a true testament to the indomitable spirit of our armed forces.

On this significant day, the brave members of the Indian Armed Forces faced the most arduous terrain and extreme weather conditions, demonstrating unwavering courage as they valiantly fought on the steep icy slopes of the peaks. 

Their determination and grit led to the defeat of the enemy's evil designs, successfully driving intruders out from our precious Indian Soil.

The Kargil War, known as Operation Vijay, took place at an astonishing altitude of approximately 16,000 feet, underscoring the extraordinary challenges our armed forces overcame in securing victory.

The ceremony was attended by numerous serving personnel from all three services, along with esteemed veterans. 

Their presence symbolises the unity and gratitude of our nation, forever indebted to their selfless service and dedication to safeguarding our sovereignty.
